My son and I recently made a trip into the city and took the opportunity to stop at a few places for some book shopping. Our first stop was Goodwill, followed by our favorite used book store Half Price Books, and then our favorite independent family owned bookstore The Bookworm. We had a great day and I walked away with some great finds, as did my son.

If you’re interested in learning what any of these books are about, simply click on the title below to visit that books Goodreads page.

Goodwill purchases:

Warriors: The Ultimate Guide by: Erin Hunter (We’ve never read any of the books in this series, but the artwork alone made this a great buy. Maybe someday we’ll give the series a shot.)

My One Square Inch of Alaska by: Sharon Short

Get your book ordering fingers ready.

Thanks to a wonderful book video blog (book vlog?) I discovered a great new place to order books from. It’s called Book Outlet. They have some amazing deals and great shipping prices. For the US it’s just $3.99 for the first 1 or 2 books and then just $0.50 a book after that. I just ordered 15 books (9 hardback & 6 paperback) for under $71 including shipping.

I think I’m really going to like this site. You can even create a wishlist to make it easier to keep an eye out for the books you want.

An example of their great prices. I just ordered a book for $2.99, Amazon wants $9.99 for the exact same book. They get some of their books from publishers as returns from bookstore overstock, so the books might have an ink mark on the…

I came across an article on the internet encouraging people to only read books written by certain types of people for a year. Those written only by women, or people of color, or gay/lesbians, or transgenders, etc. Basically any books except those written by straight white men.

Now I understand this is an attempt to get people to broaden their horizons. However that could have been said just by encouraging people to pick up and read books by authors they’ve never read before. Take your average yearly reading amounts and make at least half the books you read in the next year those that are written by someone new to you. Or genres you aren’t used to reading. Or if you want to take it a step further, for the next year make all of the books you read those that are written by authors you’ve never tried before or…

At last, the time has come!

I’m not going to tease, or make you wait any longer. I’m pleased as punch, proud as a peacock, and flipped-out as a fairy to present the cover and back-cover blurb for Torn (available now for pre-order through Amazon!)

torn_full cover art by Ravven (www.ravven.com)

Aren Tiernal knows that safety is an illusion, that his cruel and powerful brother will never forgive his betrayal. Still, returning to Tyrea to challenge Severn for the throne would be suicide. It’s not until Severn himself comes to collect what’s owed to him that Aren decides to risk everything in an attempt to bring down the most powerful Sorcerer Tyrea has ever known. The mission seems doomed to fail, but it’s Aren’s only chance to save himself, his country, and the woman who thawed his heart.

Rowan Greenwood has troubles of her own. Though she should be a great Sorceress, years…

UPDATE: I’ve added information about the 4th book in the series and reviews for all of them.

The Bionics (Book #1)

Book Description:

“All I ever wanted was to be a normal girl. I had dreams of joining the ranks of the Military Police and making my family proud. But the nuclear war that laid waste to our country destroyed any hope I had of being normal ever again. They took everything away from me, including my humanity. I am now half-human, half-machine, part of the never-ending freak show that is the Restoration Project.

They hate what they created and they fear us for being powerful.

And so they hunt us, destroying our lives so that they can bury what they built. What they don’t know is this: there is a Resistance out there and The Bionics aren’t going down without a fight.”

My review of this book:

The Bionics is…

Please stay tuned

Due to technical difficulties (my computer won’t start) I currently have limited internet access. Sadly, I won’t be able to post book reviews or other updates for the time being. Hoping to be able to get the problem fixed sooner rather than later, but that will depend on just how bad the problem with my computer is and how much it will cost to fix it.

Take two.

It’s been a little over a year and five months since my last post. Life kind of got in the way and I got distracted from posting on here. I’ve read several books in that time and even left some reviews on Goodreads & Amazon, but forgot to post them on my blog. In the past year I’ve discovered several new authors and would like to help get the word out about their books. I’m going to try this blog thing, again, in hopes of being better about it this time. Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be able to post some of the reviews that I left on other sites, along with some new ones.

Decisions Decisions

Well, I have a blog. Now what do I do with it?

I’m thinking about posting reviews of some of the books that I’ve read recently. I’ve been on quite the reading kick and thought it would be fun to share my thoughts on what I’ve been reading.

I also enjoy quilting and thought I could share pictures of my finished projects.

Not sure how often I’ll get around to posting stuff, but I’ll give it a shot and see what happens.
